A project redefining Mexico’s port logistics
The construction of the New Manzanillo Port marks a turning point in Mexico’s maritime infrastructure. Although work has not yet officially begun, the project has already captured the attention of the world’s largest shipping and port operating companies, positioning itself as a strategic initiative to strengthen connectivity and efficiency in Mexican foreign trade.
According to the National Port System Administration (Asipona Manzanillo), 13 of the world’s leading maritime companies have formally expressed interest in participating in future bidding processes.
Planned expansion with long-term vision
he new port complex will be located about 30 kilometers from the current port and will cover nearly 1,880 hectares, quadrupling its operational capacity.
The plan includes terminals specialized in containers, hydrocarbons, and transfer cargo, with berths up to 18 meters deep, capable of handling large-draft vessels and storage areas exceeding 2,000 meters.
Automation and efficiency as a central pillar
The project includes advanced technology, rail connectivity, and progressive automation to achieve continuous and sustainable logistics flow. The new port is expected to become a benchmark in port efficiency, positioning Mexico as a leader in Pacific maritime trade.
An environmental and social challenge requiring consensus
Despite international enthusiasm, development faces delays in the approval of the Environmental Impact Study (EIS), submitted to the Ministry of Environment and Natural Resources (Semarnat).
